January 16th, 2006Interesting Restoration Texts
Recently, I’ve been binging on some classic Restoration Movement papers found at the Memorial University of Newfoundland’s Restoration Movement Texts site, which is a part of the their excellent Restoration Movement Pages website. I’ve found these interesting:
- According to the Pattern by W. Carl Ketcherside – In this book, a collection of articles written in 1970, the legendary “grandfather of late 20th century liberal preachers” criticizes the Church of Christ’s appeal to patterns. Occasionally condescending and often irritated, Ketcherside addresses some real problems (so I think) with the church’s typical approach to scripture.
- Declaration and Address by Thomas Campbell – As far as I can tell, this 1809 text is what started the Campbell side of the Campbell-Stone Restoration Movement. His discussion of authority (direct statement, approved apostolic example, necessary inference, etc.) is quite interesting.
